There’s more to an airport hotel than a bed, a shuttle and an early wake-up call. At least that’s the idea behind The Mindaro.
The new 90-room hotel, opening Oct. 29 just minutes from Portland International Airport, aims to give travelers something they might not expect so close to the runway: a reason to stick around.
“Airport convenience brings people here, and we wanted the experience to give them a reason to return,” Rick Takach, chairman and CEO of Vesta Hospitality, says in a written response.
Part of the JdV by Hyatt collection, The Mindaro brings a bit of the Pacific Northwest indoors, with natural materials and regionally inspired design.
Guests don’t have to go far to eat. Jawfish Restaurant serves Northwest-inspired comfort food at lunch, dinner and happy hour. The Hollow, opening Oct. 28, covers the rest of the day, with Stumptown Coffee and breakfast sandwiches in the morning and cocktails, beer, wine and light bites later on.

Traveling for work? The Mindaro campus also includes the neighboring Hyatt House Portland Airport and 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The two hotels offer a combined 202 guest rooms.

Takach says a productivPDe workday matters, but so do a comfortable room, a good meal and a place to unwind with colleagues.
PDX is three miles away, and the airport shuttle is free.
Not a bad way to spend a layover. Or a few days.
