Sometimes to truly appreciate a city’s skyline, you have to take a step back and soak in the context. In Seattle’s case, you’ll have to cross Lake Washington to get a unique view from the shore in Kirkland. Not only can you still catch a glimpse of towering skyscrapers and Mount Rainier’s snowy crown, but sailboats in the harbor provide the setting for one of the best sunsets in the Pacific Northwest.
You won’t find a better vantage point to enjoy it than the upper deck at Anthony's HomePort Kirkland.
Passing by on the street you might not even notice, with all of the buildings and trees blocking the view. But seated at the bar — or if you’re blessed with a sunny day, the patio — you’ll understand why the restaurant is a destination for locals and visitors alike.
Happy hour is also a hit. Served from 4-6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 2-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, you can enjoy oyster shooters (traditional or “leche de tigre” style), spicy ahi nachos, delicious clam chowder, or crispy calamari with a lemon aioli. Beer on tap has a decidedly local flavor, with a pilsner from Farmstrong Brewing and a pair of Anthony’s own collaborations with Scuttlebutt Brewing and Narrows Brewing. The bar features specialty cocktails and Northwest wines, as well.
Built in 1976, Kirkland was the first-ever Anthony’s HomePort location and 50 years later you’ll still encounter a family-friendly atmosphere.
Every Friday at 6 p.m. throughout March, Anthony’s HomePort Kirkland will host an Oyster Slurp competition. In celebration of the season, 12 people will race to consume 12 oysters-on-the-half-shell as fast as possible while their hands are behind their back. Although every contestant gets a taste of the fresh shellfish, only the winner will earn a free dinner for two.
So whether you feel the salty spirit of competition calling or simply want to cap a day in wine country with a seafood feast, think about stopping by to experience the sights and bites.
